Quebec City may be the oldest city in Canada, but there is nothing old about it’s lively restaurant and bar scene. The city is known for its European feel, offering classic French cuisine mixed with hearty Canadian staples. We were excited to see the microbrew and craft brewery trend had reached Quebec City. Check out our list below of where to eat and drink in Quebec City. Spoiler alert this list contains can’t miss restaurants, craft breweries, and a life changing ice cream shop!

Poutineville

When you think of Canadian food one of the first things that comes to mind is poutine! We drove to Quebec City for the weekend and after a long drive, we arrived hungry! Poutineville popped up on our desperate Google search for food and while it did sound touristy, it actually lived up to its good reviews. The menu was more than simply classic poutine, they also offer unique create your own poutines. We both agreed that the pepper gravy was the best!

Le Billing

Crepes are a traditional French food that are popular in Quebec City. Le Billing is a tiny creperie that has both sweet and savory crepes. We stopped here for brunch and enjoyed their menu of creative crepes.

Chocolat Favoris

Hands down the most delicious ice cream we have ever tasted was at Les Chocolat Favoris and we have had A LOT of ice cream in our lives! Memories of my vanilla cone dipped in a peanut butter hard shell still makes my mouth water. Chris opted for a chocolate cookie and vanilla ice cream sandwich dipped in a salted caramel shell. He described it as ‘the most epic ice cream sandwich ever’. This shop cannot be missed on a trip to Quebec City! Getting here is an adventure that involves a ferry and several flights of stairs, but it will be worth your effort! I am sharing the address here to make your life easier (32 Avenue Bégin, Lévis) and please visit and share your experience with us!

Breweries & Bars

Quebec City has a small, yet mighty craft brewery scene. We visited a few places around the city recommend the following spots:

La Barberie is a micro brewery with an 8 beer sampler that spins! While the spinning tray was a highlight for me, the beer was good and the bar had a great atmosphere.

If you are looking for happy hour bars, Bar L’lnox offers great specials and has a variety of local craft beer on tap. Le Pape Georges is located in Lower Town and has an amazing happy hour special. Try to grab a table outside to enjoy the people watching ,while striking up a conversation with the happy hour enthusiasts seated around you.

Two glasses of beer

Our favorite craft brewery in Quebec City is without question Noctem Artisans Brasseurs. Great beer, amazing snacks, and free wifi makes this brewery the perfect pit stop for any fellow travel bloggers out there. The brewery had an atmosphere made for writing. For some reason, we always tend to enjoy writing in a brewery more than a coffee shop (it must be the beer). Try the party mix when you are here – spicy popcorn, crunchy kale, sweet walnuts, and dried apple – we were addicted at first bite!
